At MASH I teach Algebra 2 Level 2, Honors Trigonometry and Precalculus, and Honors Precalculus. I also advise the high school math team. In 1981 I began teaching high school mathematics in Brooklyn, NY, while also working on my master's degree at Brooklyn College, which I completed in 1984. After that I was lucky to be able to alternate teaching mathematics part-time at Brooklyn College with my full-time high school teaching while my 3 children were young. In 1998 we moved to Mechanicsburg, as my spouse, Robert Shaffer, began to teach history at Shippensburg University. I taught mathematics part-time that first year at HACC, and in 1999 I began teaching at MASH. My sons graduated from MASH in 2002, 2004 and 2009. My undergraduate degree is from Yale University, following my graduation from a Swiss public high school, after early childhood in Richmond, Virginia. I have also enjoyed taking assorted summer math classes since moving to Pennsylvania.
I am a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and the Pennsylvania Council of Teachers of Mathematics (PCTM).
