🌍 WILDCATS ACROSS THE POND // Last school year, we had the privilege of welcoming educators from St. Teilo’s Church in Wales High School to MASD. Now, it was our turn to visit them.
Dr. Bitz, MASH Principal Joe Reidy, and a group of MASH students recently returned from Cardiff, Wales, where they continued the connections that began right here in Mechanicsburg.
Coordinated through the Capital Area Intermediate Unit, this experience allowed our students and educators to experience a different school and culture firsthand, exchange ideas, and build relationships across the globe.
We’re grateful to our friends at St. Teilo’s for returning the warm welcome and for an experience that brought our Wildcats home with new perspectives, meaningful connections, and memories that will last well beyond their time in Wales.

🏑 WILDCAT PRIDE, BEYOND MASH // Talk about making an impact right out of the gate!
Congratulations to MASH Class of 2026 graduate Liv Schweighart, who is already making her mark as a freshman goalkeeper for Shippensburg University field hockey.
Earlier this month, Liv was named the NFHCA Division II Defensive Athlete of the Week after posting a shutout in the Raiders’ 2-0 win over No. 3 Newberry. She made two stops in the victory and extended her shutout streak to three games to begin her collegiate career. The national recognition came just after Liv was also named the PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Week. 🏆
From protecting the goal for the Wildcats to doing the same at the collegiate level, we love seeing our graduates continue to shine.
Way to go, Liv! Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat. 🐾

Join the Mechanicsburg Music Alliance for the 28th annual Music in the Park on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, at John H. Frederick Field at Memorial Park. The evening will feature 10 area high school marching bands, with our own Maroon Machine taking the field at 8 p.m. in exhibition with its 2026 show, GRAVITY!
🎺 Gates open at 4 p.m.
🎟️ Adults: $12
🎟️ Seniors (60+), active military, veterans, first responders & students: $8
🎟️ Ages 4 & under: FREE
Shippensburg University’s Marching Band will also perform, and the evening will wrap up with a mass band performance.

This national recognition honors students who demonstrated exceptional academic promise, placing among the top 50,000 students nationwide who entered the 2027 competition through the PSAT/NMSQT.

⚾ ➡️ 📚 FROM BASEBALL INJURY TO FIRST-TIME AUTHOR // Time spent recovering from a baseball injury turned into an exciting new chapter for MASH senior Gary Cottingham, who published his very first book this summer!
While taking a creative writing course at MASH, Gary says he discovered a love for writing that inspired him to turn his ideas into a published book. And he’s not stopping there. He’s already working on a series and can’t wait to share what comes next.
We couldn’t be prouder to see where his creativity and drive take him. Congratulations, Gary, on this incredible accomplishment! We’ll definitely be staying tuned. 📖

📚 ¡CUENTOS Y CONEXIONES! (“Stories and Connections”) // MASH Spanish IV Honors students took a walk down the hill to Broad Street Elementary today, where they shared original children’s stories with first graders. 💛
As part of their culminating project, students created culturally-based storybooks inspired by the Spanish-speaking world, covering everything from festivals and famous places to mysteries and traditions. Through expressive storytelling, illustrations, and interactive Spanish words, our high school Wildcats helped bring language and culture to life for their younger audience.
It was a fun and meaningful experience for everyone involved, and a great reminder that learning is even more powerful when it’s shared. 🌎📖
