Joel Covert - School Counselor, serving MASH students with last name L~R

“One of life's quiet excitements is to stand somewhat apart from yourself and watch yourself softly becoming the author of something beautiful." ~Norman Maclean, A River Runs Through It. I spend a fair number of days each month in smalls streams with a fly rod in hand, and a friend not far away, in piscatory delight but pondering how to get that mysterious and beautiful trout to take my fly. Then, with some persistence, new thinking and tiny tweaking, it happens...and it's magical.
As we head into a new year, we have the opportunity to write our collective and individual story. The current chapter can be pretty messy and far from what we planned, but here we are. But, I believe that we have the opportunity to write something adventurous, gracious and transformational. Maybe it's a story in which we are our brother's and sister's keeper - providing space and time for someone to share their pain or confusion, or laugh a little over something silly (to not take oneself too seriously), or go for a walk to enjoy things not seen on a screen, or help a friend with Math or Science. Or, possibly some time on the water where Maclean states, "all things merge into one, and a river runs through it.
I'm looking forward to us writing our story together this school year. I'm just an email away. Please reach out to me. I'm happy to meet with you in person, zoom meet or talk on the phone. I'm thinking of you and look forward to see you author beautiful moments at MASH.

  • If you spend enough time with me, you'll eventually end up with a fly rod in your hand in some of the prettiest places around.
