🔎 EXPLORING FUTURE PATHWAYS // Recently, some of our future-focused Wildcats at Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School stepped beyond the classroom to explore careers in both the military and legal fields.

Students connected with members of the PA Army National Guard to learn about field artillery roles, engineering support careers, and both college and non-college pathways. Another group attended a Law & Corrections career exploration event, speaking with state representatives, state troopers, attorneys, and law professors about careers in law and law enforcement.

Real conversations. Real professionals. Real-world possibilities. Real connections.

Special thanks to Jeff Luttermoser and team for coordinating these amazing opportunities! (📸 And for the photos.)

🧦 HEY MEAGHAN, YOU KNOCKED OUR SOCKS OFF // Always looking for creative ways to engage students, Meaghan Sabatini, MASH librarian, introduced a once-per-cycle board game program during study halls—bringing students together in the library to connect, collaborate, and have fun. The goal is simple but powerful: build community, encourage teamwork, and spark creativity.

When Dr. Bitz stopped by, Mrs. Sabatini was right there with students—playing games, sharing laughs, and helping make the library a welcoming space that extends far beyond academics.

That kind of care, creativity, and connection truly Knocked Our Socks Off. 💜🧦

❄️ TWO-HOUR DELAY, 1/29/26 and 1/30/26 // Mechanicsburg Area School District will operate on a two-hour delay schedule on Thursday, January 29, and Friday, January 30, 2026. Based on several factors—including cold temperatures, the need to navigate snow piles, and the benefits of increased daylight—a delay was the best decision for our students.

Thank you for your patience as we work our way back to a normal school schedule.

🧦 HEY COACH, YOU KNOCKED OUR SOCKS OFF // On this chilly Wednesday, we thought we'd warm your heart with a bonus You Knocked Our Socks Off celebration. When our 9th grade boys basketball team needed a coach just before the season tipped off, Coach Steve Laudenslager didn’t hesitate. Coming out of “coaching retirement,” he stepped in to lead, support, and guide our student-athletes when they needed it most.

His willingness to answer the call and ensure our team was ready to compete truly Knocked Our Socks Off. Our Wildcats are lucky to have you, Coach! 🏀🐾

They’ll be back at it again today for another round of winter weather cleanup.

Your long hours, teamwork, and commitment do not go unnoticed. We are incredibly grateful for all you do behind the scenes to keep our Wildcat community moving, no matter the weather. THANK YOU. 💜

❄️ CLOSED // All Mechanicsburg Area School District schools will be CLOSED tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27, 2026. This will be a traditional snow day with no makeup day needed.

Our Facilities Department and local municipalities did an amazing job today, as they worked tirelessly to clear roads, sidewalks, and parking lots throughout the district. Unfortunately, there are still a few trouble spots out there that we'll hopefully see cleared up tomorrow.

Stay safe, Wildcats!

📚🏀 OH, THE BOOKS WE WILL GIVE! // Shoutout to Wildcat Teacher and Basketball Coach Steven Laudenslager, who made a special, early-morning appearance on WGAL today to help kick off the fun around our Slam Dunks and Storybooks Dr. Seuss Book Challenge — and the pages are turning in the best way. He stood alongside his brother, who's leading the challenge in neighboring West Shore SD. Now it’s your turn to join the story. Bring a NEW book (that’s the rule, not a riddle 😉) to help spread some Seuss-style joy to patients at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital: 🏀 Tonight at the girls basketball game at Cedar Cliff 🏀 Tomorrow at the boys basketball game at Mechanicsburg Area High School 📌 A quick note from the Cat in the Hat: all donated books must be new. So grab a book, pack the gym, cheer loud, and help us turn baskets into bookmarks and points into pages. Because when Wildcats give back, oh, the places books can go. 💜📖

🏀📚 SLAM DUNKS and STORYBOOKS // Our Wildcats are taking on the Cedar Cliff Colts in a friendly Slam Dunks and Storybooks competition — and we need your help to score big for a great cause. If you’re able, please consider donating (and sharing this post!) a NEW Dr. Seuss book. Every book collected will be donated to Penn State Health Children’s Hospital.

Book donations can be dropped off at the MASH main office now through January 20, 2026, or brought to the January 20 or 21, 2026, games. As a thank-you, all donors will receive a coupon for a free hot dog, redeemable at the concession stand during either of those gamedays.

To get you in the spirit, here’s a little Dr. Seuss inspired writing … 💜📖

It’s game time and story time, all rolled into one,
Oh, the books we’ll collect as the kindness will grow!

The goal is simple, the cause is grand,
To put Green Eggs and Ham in every child’s hand.

Each book you donate helps spread some cheer,
To kids at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital this year.

Drop off your new books at the MASH main office door,
Or bring them January 20 and 21 as our Wildcats hit the floor.

Let’s fill up those shelves with stories galore,
For the children who need them—let’s open the door.

🚓💙 LAW ENFORCEMENT APPRECIATION DAY // Today (and every day!), we’re grateful for the strong partnerships we share with law enforcement across our community. Their presence in our schools goes beyond safety—it’s about connection, trust, and meaningful relationships with our students and staff.

A special thank you to Officer Mark, our District Resource Officer, whose steady presence and genuine care help our Wildcats feel supported and safe. From morning fist bumps and catch on the playground to lunchtime check-ins and hallway conversations, these moments matter.

Thank you to all of our law enforcement partners for being an important part of the Wildcat community. Today we celebrate you. Every day we appreciate you.

🧦 HEY SETH AND COACH, YOU KNOCKED OUR SOCKS OFF // Two moments. One shared commitment to our Wildcats. We’re proud to recognize Dave Heckard, LEARN Teacher and Head Football Coach, and Seth Pehanich, Athletic Director, for the ways they show up for students — often when no one is watching.

While Coach Heckard’s teams find success on the field, his impact off the field means even more. After the final game of the season, he took time for a quiet, encouraging walk with one of the team’s backups — a powerful moment of care, character building, and connection that speaks volumes about who he is as an educator and coach.

And when the football staff accidentally left their headsets behind before an away game, Seth didn’t hesitate. He jumped in the car, drove more than an hour round trip, and arrived just in time as the final note of the anthem played, ensuring our team had what they needed to succeed.

Different roles. The same heart for students. Dave and Seth, your dedication truly Knocked Our Socks Off.
